daily sketch 4

There is not that much I can show you from my sketchbook but I made a few pretty awesome space based drawings. In the near future you will see the mystery pages and I can show you some final products that came to life from my sketchbook as wel but until then you have to do it with a stoned pigeon. Still space themed and the planets are actually where an idea started. Freedom on paper!

Daily Sketch 3. Space crawlers.

There you have it, some astronauts. There are some awesome theories of what would happen when you get lost in space. Astronauts appear to have some kind of jetpack system to fly back to the ship when they float away by accident. Second option to survive something like this is your colleagues. When they fail to help you you are lost. You will live up to eight hours before you run out of oxygen. But you will float with quite some speed around the earth so you will have a nice view before you die.
Second thing that could happen is that you rip a hole in your suit by accident. Well then you are fucked. It is not like you can do that much since you die in a few seconds. After you die in your suit you wil blow up up to twice your size because of all the gasses expanding in your body.
This last option is interesting to me since you probably are going to the first stages of decomposition anyway. You will increase in size anyway, it would be a logical to spot in space that your spacesuit is ra…

Daily Sketch 2. Let's take a look in space...

Day 2 of my sketchbook journey. I was asked to draw a scene from space and I have to say, I never drew anything like that. So this is something I have to explore myself like an illustrative astronaut. I always liked movies and other Sci-fi stuff but never thought I would actually draw it.
At this point I am starting on a new chapter in my illustration journey. The sketchbook is a whole new way to try things. First thing I did is lose the well thought drawings, here I am just trying things. No one is going to judge me for this because I am just putting ideas on paper. As you can see I even picked up a whole new medium, and that is just BLACK INK and a paint brush.
This is a lot less forgiving and I have to know really well where I am going to put the blacks. Mike Mignola, Doug Tennapel and Kim Holm are both masters of this technique. Now I understand why they choose this, it feels free to use a brush and it is quick.
Tomorrow: more space suits and maybe even a spaceship. So no octopus …

Daily Sketch 1, The first daze.

Hello there, I am going to post sketches every day on this blog. I don't know where things are heading from here but I am excited on what things are going to bring. Some are studies some are stories.
Today I picked up my brush and ink and started drawing, I added some color in photoshop. It is nice to work with just black ink and don't add any water. You really have to think what you are going to paint. This is something I am going to do for a while, it feels more spontaneous and it makes you think before you draw.
